            A.  Interventions:  K. Booker
-Saturday tutorials began on the 23rd of January.
-In order to boost attendance at Saturday tutorials, letters were sent home, connect ed calls were placed, and Dr. Booker talked to students during lunch.
-All students are welcome to attend Panther Learning Camp, but the camp is meant for ‘bubble’ kids, those who are on the cusp of passing.

            B.  TLC Committee:  B. Johnson
-Ms. Holt is in the hospital.
-Mrs. Garcia sent a plant to her on behalf of the BMS faculty and staff.
-The Salvation Army donated baskets that were filled with coats, back packs and other toiletries.  Thos items were given to the 12 homeless students that attend BMS.

  1. Professional Development: J. Barnwell/N. Khan/ R. Hambley

-Mrs. Fields will be a part of this committee.
-The committee met the week of January 18th 2010 to deliberate on the book and Professional development activities for the month of August.
-Other suggestions brought up by the committee included: Panther Power Hour.
-Under the Panther Power Hour plan, next year, there will be early dismissal every Wednesday.  On alternating Wednesdays, teachers will have professional development in the library, and students will go home. During the other two Wednesdays of the month, academic time would stop at 1:55p.m.  At that time, students will have one hour of academic tutoring, and another hour to have an opportunity to join one of several clubs that would be spearheaded by a member of the faculty.
-D. Weatherspoon will lead a focus group to discuss the idea.
-Teachers who would like to join the focus groups should watch out for an email in the upcoming weeks.

  1. Community Marketing: T. Day,  M. Jao, C. Richmond

-There will be a community connections meeting at BMS on February 10th 2010.
-The topics to be discussed include but are not limited to: Feeder pattern ASPIRE data.
-M.Fields will be in charge of this meeting.

            H.  Letters from the Box: J. Anigbo
-Concerns about:
a. Office visits:  Issue was resolved.  That involved one isolated incident.
b. ARDS: Issue was resolved by K.Livingston.  That involved one isolated incident
c. Schedule changes: Issue was resolved by T.Day.  That involved one isolated incident
d.  Budget: M.Jao will present the budget to entire SDMC and will have a meeting in late February or early March with all heads of departments in order to present the school budget.
e.  Dress code: see below

  1. Old Business:

-Student dress code for next year:
-T.Day, J.Anigbo, and B.Johnson will hold a focus group to discuss BMS dress code for next school year.
-C.Luna brought up the point that when the dress code for next year has been decided, a letter and a connect Ed message should be sent home to the parents in English and Spanish.
-The concern was brought up that the only way a revamping of the dress code would work is if all the teachers are on board.  If the teachers did not do their part to uphold their responsibilities, then they would face consequences.

  1. New Business:

-Administrators and clerks did not vote for the bell schedule last year.
-Last year, the school day began at 7:55a.m and ended at 3:30p.m.
-This year, the faculty will once again vote on a bell schedule.
-Some would rather have the school day start earlier because it pushes everything else in the day back.
-Some teaches still arrive late, so pushing the dismissal time back does not help any one.
-In addition, traffic is heavier at 4:00p.m
-R.Hambley wanted to know if parents could vote.
-M.Jao said that parents may have input, they may make suggestions, but the voting process is only open to BMS faculty.
-The point was brought up that even though the bell schedule has changed; many students still come very early.
-During the next faculty meeting, we will vote early dismissal.

Motion to Adjourn by J.Anigbo, seconded by B.Johnson at 4:53p.m
