Rainbow Challenge Math Competition

On November 17, 2007 Black Middle School hosted the 19th Semi-Annual Rainbow Challenge Math Competition.  The motto of Rainbow Challenge is “Motivating children to excel in Mathematics”.  The competition was held for Elementary and Middle Schools in the HISD Central Region including 3rd grade through 7th grade.  

Black Middle School won 2nd place in the 7th grade group competition with the following team members:  D'Aundrae Barker, Indira Castruita, Toddarius Davis, Jacob Guzman, and Efrain Orona.  Each member received a medal, the team was given a trophy, and their teacher/coach, Ms. Cecilia Resendez, received a monetary prize.  The 1st place winner of the 7th grade individual competition was Black Mddle School's student Efrain Orona, who received a cash prize.  Teachers and coaches for Black Middle School include Ms. Loo, Mr. Krueger-Miller, Ms. Ondijo, Mr. Ramey and Ms. Sheils.  
Black Middle School had a total of 15 participants in the Rainbow Challenge Math Competition allowing for 2 sixth grade teams to enter the group competition.   Members of the sixth grade teams were Joseph Meza, Carlos Lara, Jessica Guzman, T'Ondrea Hayes, Denise Carillo, Rosie Fuentes, Jessica Munoz, Ismar Castro, LaTrenda Thompson, and Tiana Hafford.

The goal of the Rainbow Challenge Math Competition is to promote development in mathematics, provide direct material assistance to schools, and acknowledge and reward teachers.  Black Middle School was proud to host this event and to be recipients of the awards of this mathematical experience reaching their goals!
